Gambateh Cafe is a casual spot tucked away along Jalan Bukit Merah, best known for its uniquely crispy pandan waffles that draw a steady flow of locals looking for a quick, satisfying snack. There are no dining seats here, so it’s a grab-and-go kind of place, popular among those in the neighborhood who want a flavorful treat without fuss.

This cafe’s standout offering is its homemade waffle batter, which carries a genuine pandan fragrance without any artificial sweetness. The waffles come out piping hot with a delicate crispness on the outside, making them a little different from the usual soft-style waffles you might find elsewhere. The fillings—ranging from peanut and chocolate to rich black sesame—are applied generously, often spread on both sides, offering a nice balance to the crisp texture.

Because of the steady demand, expect a wait of 10 to 15 minutes during peak times. This reflects how the waffles are made fresh rather than rushed. Many locals come by mid-morning or afternoon, times when the snack easily slots into a casual pause in their day. If you’re in the vicinity and craving a simple, well-executed pandan or chocolate waffle, this place delivers a straightforward yet memorable bite.

While the price point, hovering around $2 to $3.30, might feel slightly premium for a no-frills stall, the quality of the batter and the authenticity of the flavors—particularly the pandan and black sesame—make it a practical choice for quick local indulgence. Gambateh Cafe suits those who appreciate traditional twists on familiar street food, especially if you like waffles that stay crisp a while after purchase.

Amazing crispy waffles! Haven’t had such great waffles in a while. Ordered the peanut waffle ($2), waiting time was around 15min. The filling wasn’t exactly much but it was sufficient to cover most of the waffle’s surface. 10/10 will purchase if in the vicinity!

Great Pandan waffles. It’s truly homemade. No taste of sweetener. Authentic pandan leaves and not too sweet. Very crispy for the outer and don’t feel guilty to with any fillings.

Looking for a snack in the area and found this hidden gem ⏰ like what most reviews mention, it’s a 10+ minutes wait given the constant stream of customers here it’s very value for money however, at $2 for the chocolate variant, the spread was on both sides of the waffle instead of just 1 like many others! the waffle itself is very fragrant and crispy, definitely one of the best out there - though the colour doesn’t look perfect Definitely a must try if you are in the area hunting for some snacks!

Came back here after a year as I kinda miss their waffles. Got the chocolate one. Was initially quite surprise with a crispy texture together with the chocolate. Waffle wasn’t the crispy kind and also I consumed it 30 mins after buying it. It seems like there’s feuilletine added to the chocolate filling. Giving it that crispy texture for every bite of the waffle. Totally enjoyed it.

Papa says: Crispy pandan waffles and generous fillings! Black sesame was gooood. They specialise in pandan waffles with handmade batter, and you can smell the store before you see it. Ordered black sesame waffles which was ready in 3 minutes — black sesame was flavorful and really rich. $3.30 might be slightly steep for a neighborhood stall with no seats, but there are plenty of public seats around to enjoy the waffles piping hot. Will be back again to try other flavors if I'm in the area — tuna corn sounds like the next :)
